The Magic Penny Effect

“It is not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.” – Mother Teresa

Selling is not about pushing your products and services. Selling is not about being louder or bolder. Selling is not about beating out the competition.

Sometimes those things are important. But mostly, selling is about knowing and giving.

Have you ever had someone give you a gift that was just perfect for you? Have you ever had someone give you a gift that made you think… hey, they really know me?

It’s an amazing experience to be gifted something that makes you feel seen. That makes you feel the giver has noticed what you love, understands what you need, and appreciates who you are.

That’s what great salespeople do. They have the power to know their prospects and clients – to tap into what those individuals love, need, and hope for. Based on that knowledge, they give real, thoughtful solutions, services, and products that keep people coming back for more.

There’s an old song about a magic penny. It goes…

Love is something

If you give it away

Give it away

Give it away

Love is something

If you give it away

You’ll end up having more

It’s just like a magic penny

Hold on tight and you won’t have any

Lend it spend it and you’ll have so many

They’ll roll all over the floor

Love is something if you give it away…

That song is about love. And funny enough, it can also be applied to selling.

If you can stop thinking of selling as pushing, shouting, and boasting – and start thinking of selling as knowing and giving – you will become the master salesperson you’ve always dreamed of.

Use emotional intelligence to start to truly know your prospects’ and clients’ experiences. That knowledge will help you share your magic penny. Pretty soon, you’ll have so many, they’ll roll all over the floor…
